Band/Symphonic Wind Ensemble

Marching Band/Symphonic Wind Ensemble (Advanced Band) is a co-curricular, performance oriented music ensemble. Membership will include participation in marching field, parade, and symphonic wind ensemble. This course will be offered as a major (6 days of a 6-day cycle). All members are required to attend a two-week marching band camp prior to the opening of school.
The marching band element of the course is a co-curricular academic class that will rehearse on Monday and Thursday evenings in September, October, and November from 5:30 to 8:30 PM, as well as on the days of competitions. The marching band will attend all football games, and selected Tournament of Bands (TOB) marching band competitions, from September through the second weekend of November. In addition, there will be sectional rehearsals scheduled once every three weeks during the marching band season (3:30-5:30 PM).
The symphonic wind ensemble will rehearse on days D, E, and F, during the 6 day cycle of classes. In addition, the symphonic wind ensemble will rehearse on Tuesday evenings after marching band season, from 3:30-5:30 PM. The symphonic wind ensemble will perform band literature on a grade V and VI level, and will perform two concerts a year, as well as being adjudicated in the spring. There will be a scheduled sectional rehearsal for the members of the symphonic wind ensemble once every 2-3 weeks in the evening during the months of December through April, which will be equated to, and graded as, a homework assignment. The members of the symphonic wind ensemble will also be members of the symphonic concert band, which will rehearse on days 1-2-3. Enrollment in Marching Band/Symphonic Wind Ensemble is mandatory towards membership in the schools advanced jazz band (which will be selected through auditions in October), audition for Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) sponsored District, Regional, and All-Sate Honors Bands, and invitation to the summer American Music Abroad (AMA) program.

The concert band will perform band literature on grade III and IV level, and will perform two concerts a year, as well as being adjudicated in the spring. There will be a scheduled sectional for the members of the concert band once every two to three weeks during the months of December through April, which will be equated to, and graded as, a homework assignment.

This course will be offered as a major (6 days of a 6-day cycle). All members are required to attend a two-week marching band camp prior to the opening of school.

The marching band will attend all football games, and selected Tournament of Bands (TOB) marching band competitions, from September through the second weekend of November. In addition, there will be a sectional rehearsals scheduled once every three weeks during the marching band season
The freshman concert band (major) will rehearse on days A, B, C, D, E, and F during the 6 day cycle of classes. The freshman concert band will perform band literature on a grade III and IV level, and will perform two concerts a year, as well as being adjudicated in the spring. There will be a scheduled sectional for the members of the freshman concert band once every 2 weeks after school (2:45-3:30 PM) during the months of December through April. Selected members of the freshman concert band (major), who successfully memorize all of their major, minor, and chromatic scales, will also be members of the symphonic wind ensemble, which will rehearse on Tuesday evenings after marching band season, from 3:30-5:30 PM, which will be equated to, and graded as, a homework assignment. Enrollment in Marching Band/Freshman Concert Band (major) is mandatory towards membership in the schools advanced jazz band, which will be selected by audition in October.

Freshman Concert Band
